Start with what an inspection is not: it's not a guy leaning over the tank for ninety seconds and initialing a form. When HomeField inspects a system, we open it up. We measure the sludge and scum levels in the tank, check the tank itself for cracks and leaks, and look at the lids, risers, and baffles that keep everything moving the right direction. Then the mechanical side: pumps, floats, wiring, and the alarm that's supposed to warn you before a problem becomes a mess.
Around here, most of that work happens on aerobic systems, because that's what this county builds now. On those we check the aerator, the spray heads or drip lines, and the chlorine that disinfects the water before it ever touches your yard. Then we walk the dispersal area looking for soggy ground or surfacing water. When we're done, you get a plain-English rundown of what's solid, what's wearing, and what needs attention now. No mystery, no upsell. Just what we found.
What Are HomeField Septic Inspectors Looking For?
Honest answer: it depends on which side of the county you're on and what you're running. If you've got an aerobic unit, and most systems put in around here over the last couple of decades are, state law has it on a four-month inspection cycle. Three checks a year, minimum. So the question isn't whether your system should be looked at. It's whether those looks are real.
