What Do Our Septic Tank Services Look Like In Rollingwood?

Here's the tell: walk the yard between the house and the street and look for a steel or concrete lid, a round riser sitting flush with the grass, or a rectangle of ground that stays a little lower than everything around it. That's a tank that got pumped and forgotten instead of properly abandoned. They surface during remodels, pool digs, and the inspection before a sale, which is the worst possible moment to meet one.
Retiring one isn't a matter of forgetting about it, because abandonment has to meet TCEQ's standards, and which desk signs off depends on your address. Rollingwood isn't its own septic authority the way West Lake Hills next door is. You don't need to work that out. The other thing worth knowing is how close the real septic country starts. West Lake Hills, one town over on Bee Caves Road, largely stayed on septic. Those are live systems, and they need pumping, inspection, repairs, and someone who knows whose rules apply. Why Do People Love Living In Rollingwood?
You can walk across Rollingwood before a decent song finishes. Seven tenths of a square mile, about fourteen hundred people, downtown Austin three miles up the road, and Zilker basically over the back fence. The kids go to Eanes schools and spend summer at the Western Hills pool. The town park has ball fields and trails inside a footprint most cities would file under neighborhood. George Hatley laid the streets out in 1955, and the place has spent every year since politely declining to become anything larger. That isn't a failure to grow. That's the product.
Here's what that has to do with the rest of this page. Rollingwood didn't grow its way off septic, it argued its way off. The case it made to Austin in 1998 was that the town was already built out, and it got 300 gallons a minute on that argument, a third of what West Lake Hills asked for the same year.
Being small and finished is what makes a sewer line pencil out. One town over it never did. West Lake Hills told Austin in 2024 that most of its residents have septic and will keep it, and gave low density as the reason. So what people love about Rollingwood is the same thing that took the tanks out of its yards, and what people love about the next town over is why the tanks are still in theirs.
