Permit Office In Matagorda

Who Issues Septic Permits in Matagorda County

Planning work on land outside city limits? One office handles it: Matagorda County Environmental Health, which permits each on-site sewage facility (OSSF), the formal name for a septic system.

No town in our part of the county runs its own septic program. Matagorda County permits septic outside city limits, and inside Bay City, the state's Houston regional office (TCEQ) does.

When Your Address Says Bay City

A Bay City mailing address reaches as far as Sargent, so it doesn't settle which office you need. Outside the city limits, it's the county. Inside, homes usually use city water and sewer; a septic permit in town comes from the state's Houston regional office (TCEQ), and we'll make sure yours gets submitted correctly. Have an older system? Call us if you have questions about your system.

Permit Steps In Matagorda

Matagorda County Septic Regulations, Step by Step

Every job here, from a new build to a repair, follows a set order with the county. Skip a step, and the rest of the project sits waiting on the septic side.

Building a house? The septic permit comes before the county will issue your building permit, so start here. Only registered installers may build a system, and the county lists the licensed ones.

A Site Evaluation Before Any Design

Before anyone draws a system, someone has to look closely at the lot. State rules call for a site evaluation and a design with the permit application. The evaluation checks the soil and the layout of the land, and the design sets the system type, its size and its place on the lot. Our septic design and permitting help covers both.

Permits for Repairs, Not Just New Systems

Planning to fix or add on to the system you have? In Matagorda County, a permit is needed to build, alter, extend or repair a system, so a repair goes through the same office as a brand-new install. Tell us what's wrong. The permit is usually included in the price of the repair, and we make sure it gets submitted correctly.

The County Inspects Before You Use It

Once the system is in, the county inspects it, and it can't go into use until it passes. When we handle a new septic installation, we plan for that inspection from day one, so passing it is part of the job, not a surprise at the end.

How We Handle a Matagorda Permit

If this is your first septic permit, you don't have to learn the forms. We'll get your system designed and permitted. You tell us about the lot and house; we arrange the evaluation and design and make sure the application is done right. Once it's built, our septic service across Fort Bend, Brazoria and nearby counties keeps it running.

WHERE WE WORK

Our Part of Matagorda County

Our part of the county takes in Bay City and the rural land around it, Sargent on the bay, Van Vleck and Pledger. Wherever your address falls, the permit questions start the same way: is it inside a city or outside one, and what can the lot hold? We'll work through both with you.

Van Vleck is unincorporated, so even with a district serving its core, the county permits septic there. In Sargent, Caney Creek MUD runs a wastewater plant, so not every home has a tank. Pledger, out at FM 1301, sits outside any city, so the county covers it too. We work all three.

Own a home with a tank on the land around town or along the Colorado River? Permits aside, the system still needs regular looking after. Our Bay City, TX page covers the pumping, repairs and aerobic checks we handle for homes in and around Bay City.

Aerobic Rules In Matagorda

Aerobic Systems and the County Contract

Got a control panel and spray heads in the yard? That system comes with ongoing rules, not just a one-time permit. Here's what they ask of you.

None of it is hard once someone else keeps track of the dates. That's the job of an aerobic maintenance contract that meets the county rule, and it's work we take on.

Expect Drip or Spray Here

Planning a new system? Most ground around Bay City is clay loam and heavier clay, so water from a standard trench can't soak in fast enough. That's why most new systems in our area drip or spray instead. Both run on pumps, so both need steady care.

The Contract an Aerobic System Needs

Own an aerobic system? Aerobic systems need a contract with a licensed provider for at least the first two years, and state rules call for a check at least every four months. The county requires the contract to stay current. If yours has lapsed, or you're not sure who holds it, we'll pick it up and put the visits back on schedule.

Floodplain Lots and Fill Dirt

Building on low ground? Low ground near the Colorado floods, so floodplain rules here matter. In Matagorda County, the same office handles septic and floodplain permits, and fill dirt in a floodplain needs a permit of its own. We'll look at both before you build.
