More Things You Should Know About A Septic Tank Pump
This will depend on how big your tank is, and how often you use it, but we’d recommend pumping your septic tank every 3 to 5 years.
There are plenty of possible signs your septic tank needs pumping. If you notice your drains are draining slowly, or if your toilets don’t flush, or if water is unexpectedly pooling in your yard it’s probably time to call us. Also, if you hear random gurgling sounds in and around your home, or bad smells are present, or if parts of your yard (especially close to your septic tank) are growing unusually fast or green you should also give us a call.
Pumping is a great start for a lot of common septic issues. However, only pumping your tank won’t fix any deeper problems within your system. One reason we always inspect your septic tank with a pump is to make sure you aren’t having structural issues or failing parts. In addition to pumping, regular servicing can keep your septic system operating smoothly for years.
Before you flush anything down your toilet and into your septic system, it’s always good to ask if it’s biodegradable. Things like paper towels, toilet wipes, feminine hygiene products, are all no-nos if you want to keep your septic system healthy.
Healthy septic systems have a variety of bacteria to break down solid elements in your septic tank. Harsh chemicals and cleaning products can disrupt that balance of bacteria in your tank, and reduce the performance of your system. Look to see if your cleaning products are labeled as septic-safe.
