Your permit comes from Wharton County Permits and Inspections, in the city of Wharton. It’s the county’s own septic authority, with its own application and contractor list.

The forms call your system an on-site sewage facility (OSSF), so a Wharton County OSSF permit is the same thing as a septic permit. Every system needs a permit, whatever the acreage.

Permits Inside Wharton County’s Towns

Wharton County permits septic outside city limits and inside East Bernard. Need a septic permit inside the city of Wharton or El Campo? The state’s Houston regional office (TCEQ) issues it, and we’ll make sure yours gets submitted correctly. Both towns run their own sewer plants. Still have an older system in town? Call us if you have questions about your system.

Homes Near the County Lines

If your land sits near the San Bernard or the southern edge of the county, confirm which county it’s in before you plan a system, because the rules change at the line. Across the river, Fort Bend County’s permit rules apply. To the south, our Matagorda County septic permits page explains how that county handles it.

 Call Your City

Inside the city of Wharton

Inside El Campo

Both run city sewer plants

 Call the County

Permits and Inspections

Land outside city limits

East Bernard, in town too

 Call Us

Septic inside Wharton or El Campo

Near the San Bernard

Near the Matagorda line

 Before A System Goes In

Wharton County’s Steps Before a System Goes In

New lot, or a system that has failed? The county’s requirements come in a set order, and knowing it up front keeps the build from waiting on septic paperwork.

The steps below follow the county’s regulations in the order they happen. Most involve a licensed professional, and the last one shows where we fit in.

Site Evaluation and a Licensed Design Come First

Before any application, someone licensed has to look at the ground. A site evaluation checks the soil and the lot, and a licensed design sets the type and size of the system and where it goes. Around here that usually means spray rather than a trench, because the ground drains slowly. Get this step right, and the rest moves more smoothly.

The County Application and a Licensed Installer

With the design done, the application goes to the county office. It wants the lot size and acreage, your water source (a public system or a private well), and the name and license number of the site evaluator, the designer and the installer. That last name matters: the installer has to hold a state license before any work starts.

A Recorded Affidavit for Aerobic Systems

When a new aerobic system goes in, an affidavit is recorded in the county deed records, so the system stays on file with the property itself. That matters when the house changes hands. The permit passes to the buyer; aerobic systems need a contract in the buyer’s name. Selling or buying? Make sure the contract moves over with the keys.

Where HomeField Comes In

We’ll get your system designed and permitted. Licensed professionals handle the evaluation and the plan, and a licensed installer builds what the permit allows. We fill in the application with every name and license number and make sure it gets submitted correctly. See how septic design and permitting works, one piece of our septic service across Fort Bend, Brazoria and nearby counties.

 WHERE WE WORK

 Five Wharton County Towns

Own a home with a system in or around the City of Wharton? The Colorado River and three creeks and sloughs meet there, so if high water reaches your yard, it’s worth having the system checked once the water goes down.

In El Campo, an older home in town may still have a tank, and out on the acreage around it, homes run their own systems. Either way, the system needs regular care, and we’re glad to take it on, from a first pump-out to a full replacement.

East Bernard sits on the San Bernard at the Fort Bend line. The town core is on Wharton County WCID No. 2 sewer; past it, homes run septic. Boling and Louise each have a small water district with sewer at the core; past them, we look after homes on their own systems.

 Wharton County Towns

Boling

East Bernard

El Campo

Louise

City of Wharton

County roads and acreage

See If We Cover You »

 Reviews

 HomeField Customers on Septic Design

“HomeField went out of their way to take care of my needs in a timely manner. Unlike a plain tank, it runs on moving parts, and the rules below decide how often someone looks at them.

When it’s time to hand those visits to someone, our aerobic maintenance contracts for Wharton County homes cover every required check, and we keep the dates.

Clay Prairie, River Sand and Your Permit

Hoping the sandier ground by the river makes for a simpler system? The rice-prairie clay and the river sand are both poor ground for a standard drain field. That’s why most new systems here drip or spray, so expect your design and permit to be for one of those.

Under Contract With a State-Licensed Provider

Aerobic systems need a contract with a licensed provider for at least the first two years, and state rules call for a check at least every four months. The county requires the contract to stay current. That goes for a shop, church or office on an aerobic unit as well, and our commercial maintenance contracts are built for them.

 POPULAR QUESTIONS

 Wharton County Septic Permit Questions

Which office permits a septic system in Wharton County?Collapse

Wharton County Permits and Inspections, the county’s own septic office, handles land outside city limits and every address in East Bernard.
