What Is Residential Septic Tank Pumping All About, Anyway?

Whether you have an aerobic septic system (which is 80-90% of the type we install here in Ellis County), or an older conventional septic system, stuff accumulates in your septic tank. Yeah, we said it. Stuff. As you use your septic system, liquids, solids, and scum condense

into what we call sludge. It’s that sludge that slows your system down. By pumping your septic tank, we remove elements from your tank that are slowing your system down. We’ll also clean your system and do a thorough inspection to make sure you’re avoiding other types of problems. Our goal with pumping is to keep your septic system running smoothly while avoiding future problems. As much as possible, we’ll try to make it look like we were never there.

How Often Should I Get A Residential Septic Tank Pump?

There are basic minimum guidelines to how often you should pump the tank of your aerobic or conventional septic system. However, just remember that the combination of your septic system and how often you use it is unique, and can greatly impact these

recommended guidelines. If you have an aerobic septic system, we recommend pumping your septic tank every 3 to 5 years (in case you’re wondering, these are 80-90% of the septic systems we install in Ellis County). If you have a conventional system, we recommend getting your septic tank pumped every 5-7 years. Again, usage could change these numbers. Also, a reminder that the goal of septic tank pumping isn’t to always to completely empty your tank. It’s to get rid of anything keeping your system from operating at peak performance, and ensure the healthy function of your system.

How Much Does Residential Septic Pumping Cost?

Even though pumping is a necessary expense to keep your septic system problem free, we try to stay competitive on pricing. Customers know the quality of our service, but we also know everyone is on a budget. What we won’t do is to give you an artificially low

price over the phone then try to charge more once we’re on site (unless we discover a bunch of new information). Current pricing starts at $600 for a 500 gallon a day aerobic septic system, and also $600 if you have a 2 or 3-tank conventional system that doesn’t exceed 1050 gallons. If you have a larger system, it does cost more (and we can quote you). To reach your system, if we have to dig a hole deeper than 6 inches we charge $25 per foot, per hole. That’s for holes between 6 inches and 2 feet deep. If we have to dig deeper than 2 feet, we have to use an excavator. We’ll quote you on excavator fees for holes deeper than 2ft deep.

How Does HomeField Do Residential Septic Pumping Differently?

First of all, you’ll always have a registered and trained expert on location when you call HomeField. We’re thorough, and we’ll locate all of your tanks, remove and rinse all the sludge from them, and always inspect your tanks and your system to make sure it’s all working

the way you need it to. Your system is unique, and every situation is different, so we don’t give you cookie-cutter service. We don’t always pump your tank completely (especially for aerobic systems), because our goal is that your system is operating at peak performance. By leaving some water, it allows your aerobic plant to grow the right kind of bacteria you need to process your wastewater (remember, it’s SLUDGE that’s bad. Your aerobic plant isn’t sludge). Most septic system manufacturers recommend this approach as the proper way to pump their systems. Again, this is why you want a trained HomeField technician on-site, not just anybody with a hose messing around with your septic system.
