The Essential Upgrade of Septic Tank Risers

The Essential Upgrade of Septic Tank Risers

September 11, 2025

Many newer septic systems are installed with risers, but older systems often aren’t. If your system still requires digging every time it needs service, it may be time to consider an upgrade.

At HomeField Onsite Environmental, we install septic tank risers to make regular maintenance easier, faster, and more cost-effective. Here’s why they’re a simple improvement that can save you time, money, and unnecessary mess.

What Are Septic Tank Risers?

Septic tank risers are vertical extensions that bring the access point of your tank up to ground level or just below. This makes it easy for technicians to access the tank without needing to dig through landscaping, pavers, or turf. Instead of hours of prep and labor, it’s as simple as removing a lid.

Risers also reduce your long-term maintenance costs. When the tank is already accessible, every service appointment becomes quicker and less expensive.

Built for Safety and Durability

Our risers are designed with both security and longevity in mind. The lids are made from durable poly-HDPE material and built to withstand Arizona’s harsh sun. With maximum UV protection, they won’t warp or break down over time.

Each lid includes a foam gasket to ensure a tight, watertight seal. Specialized square drive screws prevent unwanted access while allowing easy service when needed.

Proper Installation of Septic Tank Risers

Size Matters: What Kind of Riser Do You Need?

We install 24-inch risers on all new systems. For older tanks, two sizes have been common—18-inch risers for single-compartment tanks and 24-inch for two-compartment models.

If you have a two-compartment tank, it’s important to have risers on both the inlet and outlet sides. This gives proper access for full pumping service and allows for easy maintenance of the effluent filter located in the outlet baffle. That filter plays a critical role in keeping solids out of your disposal field, and you need to clean it once or twice a year.

Without risers, accessing that filter means digging every time. With risers, it takes just minutes.

The Bottom Line

Adding septic tank risers simplifies every aspect of maintenance, helps protect your landscaping, and cuts down on labor costs. If you want to make septic service faster and less disruptive, risers are a smart, low-hassle upgrade.
