Proper ADEQ Septic Inspections with HomeField East Valley

3 Factors of A Proper ADEQ Septic Inspection

August 20, 2025

A thorough ADEQ septic inspection is one of the most important steps in maintaining a healthy, long-lasting system. At HomeField Onsite Environmental, we focus on three core factors that define a proper, professional inspection.

1. Access Through the Septic Tank Lids

An ADEQ inspection should never be done through a cleanout or a small port. The septic tank lids must be fully uncovered and opened so that we can inspect the actual condition of the tank. This includes checking for corrosion, cracks, root intrusion, and other signs of damage.

Corrosion is a major concern in older tanks and tends to appear in the top portion of the tank where gases collect. If that damage is missed, it can become a major problem down the road.

2. A 20-Minute Flow Test

This is the only way to truly test whether the disposal field is functioning properly. The flow test involves running water for at least 20 minutes, simulating normal household use, and monitoring how the system handles it.

If the water level rises in the tank, it could mean the disposal field is starting to fail. If the water backs up inside the house, there may be a clog in the line. Either way, this test provides critical information about the health of your system and helps catch small problems before they become emergencies.

3. Certified Inspectors Only

In Arizona, septic inspectors are required to be individually certified through NAWT (National Association of Wastewater Technicians). Certification must be current and under the inspector’s name—not just the company name.

At HomeField, every inspector on our team holds their own NAWT certification number. That includes the people answering your calls, too. We believe in knowing our stuff and doing it right every time.

You can verify any inspector’s certification status at nawt.org/search.html.

A proper ADEQ septic inspection isn’t just about checking boxes—it’s about protecting your investment, your property, and your peace of mind. When you work with HomeField Onsite Environmental, you’re getting real professionals who care about doing it right the first time.
